  • Help and Advice

This is a free, confidential service, which means that we will not pass on any information about your visit to anyone else without your permission. The staff are friendly and approachable and are happy to talk to you about any problems you may have. Our ideal is that young people would come and talk to one of our nurses before they start to have sex. They can then get information on how to stay safe and stop themselves getting pregnant or catching a sexually transmitted infection before they have put themselves at risk.

Emergency Contraception

This is a pill which can be taken if you have had unprotected sex and do not want to get pregnant. It Is sometimes called the morning after pill and needs to be taken within 72 hours after you have had unprotected sex, but it works best if taken within 24 hours. You can access emergency contraception from our Young Person’s Clinic, your own doctor, or free from some pharmacies, including the Rainbow pharmacy in Ramsey.

Chlamydia Screening

Don’t Take a Chance – Take a Test!

Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection in this country and it affects both sexes. One in ten people under the age of 25 who have ever had sex have Chlamydia and don’t realise. This is because most people with Chlamydia don’t have any symptoms. Chlamydia is easily treated with antibiotics, but it can stop both men and women being able to have children in the future if it is not treated.

The National Chlamydia Screening Programme was started in Cambridgeshire in 2006. Anyone who thinks they may be at risk of having caught Chlamydia can come to the Young Person’s Clinic for a test. Men just have to do a urine sample in a bottle and women do a swab they take themselves, which is no more difficult than using a tampon. The test is also confidential. You choose how you want to get the result, most people choose to have it texted to their mobile. Anyone who has ever had sex without a condom – even once - may be at risk of having Chlamydia. If you are concerned come and speak to one of our nurses about having a test, or click here for more information.

C-Card Scheme

Ramsey Young Person’s Clinic is also part of the C-Card Scheme. This is where anyone of either sex under the age of 19 can register on the scheme and get a C-Card, which is like a coffee card with 10 boxes. After having a chat with one of our nurses they are given condoms and the first box is filled in. They can then pick up condoms from either the Young Person’s Clinic or Ramsey Information Shop on the Great Whyte until all 10 boxes are full. They then come back to the clinic for another chat and get another card. For more information please click here.
