Palliative Care

Palliative care involves the care of patients who have been diagnosed with their final illness.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) definition of Palliative Care is:

“The active total care of patients who disease is not responsive to curative treatment”. Control of pain and other symptoms is paramount. Attention is focused on psychological, spiritual and social issues as well as physical symptoms.

The goal of palliative care is to achieve the best quality of life for as long as possible. Palliative Care neither hastens nor postpones death.

Here at Ramsey Health Centre we aim to follow the Gold Standard Framework for Palliative Care. This is a model of best practice and incorporates a team approach. The team members include:
